I don't know how the brodit mounts work, but I suspect they don't have the same ability to make the opening slightly larger. When Phil Schiller introduced the Lightning connector at the unveiling of the iPhone 5 in September 2012, he called it "a modern connector for the next decade," and with that 10-year mark coming up later this year, questions remain over what the future of the iPhone looks like and whether or not that future will include a Lightning port, or perhaps no port at all.Įvery iPhone since the iPhone 5 has featured a Lightning port, which Apple touted in 2012 as a "smaller, smarter and more durable" port compared to the previous 30-pin connector. I can undock or dock the phone and the cable doesn't move. It hasn't moved in over a month of being in place. So what I did instead is wrap the plug with electrical tape so that if fit snugly in the clip to hold it in place, but would still close and lock in tightly. (The cable on my extension is about the same size as the HDMI to Lightning or VGA to Lightning adapters. I couldn't use the little rubber piece that clips around the base of the plug because both the cable and the plug were too big. I used an exacto knife and just kept following the oval profile on the inside until I got it large enough to fit. The small plastic part that the cable passes through right before it goes into the phone has to be made a slightly larger oval. I had to modify this to hold the extension cable slightly. I used plasti-dip to make itīlack and it looks pretty good) I am using this mount: (White was said to work better, so that's what I bought, even though I wanted black. I bought one of the extension cables that was said to work. I've been fighting this same problem for months. It looks like I'm going to have to modify the brand new mount to accept the cable that I have :( Which annoys me as this should not be an issue after spending nearly £500 on the Iphone and £100 on cables and mounts and then having to mod them to work. If Apple made a genuine one, many Appradio users would be happy. This is why Appradio users want a lightning extension, so that they can hide all the cables behind the dash and only have 1 cable visible.Īs mentioned before, there are 2 cables out now that will work, happy days! My problem is that neither will work with the Brodit mount. Meaning it makes the dash cluttered in your car having 2 cables (HDMI & USB) coming out visibly and also having the adaptor on display. The connection that plugs in to the iphone is only about 10cms long. This allows a HDMI cable to be plugged in the back of the Appradio and a USB to lightning to be plugged in to the AV adaptor. To get the iphone 5/5s to work with a Pioneer Appradio 2/3 you have to use a AV digital adaptor. PS 20" will be plenty of length for any vehicle install :-) unlock the in-cable chip requirement as it was just a few short weeks ago Just need ot get the word out there to Apple to offer this lightning female to male extension cable ASAP (I still have mine stuffed in the glove box just incase there is some work around offered soon) and basically throw away a perfectly good (previousely perfectly working) aftermarket lightning female to male extension cable. re-rout the HTMI dongle cluster which is bulky and kind of not cool at all. There are just over 1 million Pioneer Appradio owners that just got duped and have had to un install their in dash head units. Im sure it will happen in time but for now. they shut out the entire aftermarket lightning cable manufacturer group and have yet to add this pretty essential cable to their licensed offerings. My set up with an aftermarket F2M Lightning cable was working fine untill.Īpple released an ios7 update wich made it impossible to use any non apple cabling chargers or adapters. This will allow the whole HDMI adapter cluseter to be burried in the dash (just as it was from the original installation) Then a simple clean single lightning cable can be routed to the users iPhone dock on the dash of their vehicle. What we all need (Pioneer AppRadio owners) is an extension lightning cable female to male This setup leaves me with a crowded, clunky totally not clean mess of wires hanging out of my dashboard. That is where the extender would connect. I am stuck using the super short Lightning connector on the HDMI dongle to connect to my iPhone. they are both plugged into an Apple HDMI adapter dongle. I have an HDMI cable and an Apple Lightning cable coming through my dashboard. Your suggestion is valid but will not solve my issue.Ĭurrently I havehad to reconfigure my entire instalation.
